RADIODIAGNOSIS

  • Intravenous Pyelogram (IVP):Intravenous pyelogram (IVP) is an x-ray  that uses an injection of contrast material to evaluate your kidneys, ureters and bladder and helps in accessing the function of the kidneys.
  • Retrograde Urethrogram (RGU): This is a diagnostic test for male patients with obstruction in the urethra example stricture is. The urethra is the tube that carries urine from the bladder to outside the body. If there is a urethral stricture (a block or closing), urine cannot flow out.
This test is done in a hospital radiology unit, operating room, or a provider’s office. It is done by a doctor or an X-ray technician. No special set-up is needed. You will lie on your back or side, and an x-ray of the urethra and bladder are taken. X-ray contrast agent (dye) is gently moved into your urethra. This may not be comfortable, but it doesn’t take long. More x-rays are taken with the dye to see your urethra more clearly.
  • Micturiting Cysto-Urethrogram (MCU): A Micturiting Cysto-Urethrogram (or MCU) is a study using X-rays and x-ray dye to show the bladder and urethra while passing urine. The test is performed to find out if the urine goes from the bladder back up to the kidneys instead of out through the urethra, known as vesico-ureteric reflux (VUR). This can be the cause of recurrent urinary tract (in the bladder or kidneys) infection and kidney damage. The test also shows how the bladder empties and what the urethra looks like.
  • Uroflowmetry: Uroflowmetry measures the flow of urine. It tracks how fast urine flows, how much flows out, and how long it takes. It’s a diagnostic test to assess how well the urinary tract functions. Your doctor may suggest uroflowmetry if you have trouble urinating, or have a slow stream. By measuring the average and top rates of urine flow, this test can show an obstruction in your urinary tract such as an enlarged prostate or weak urinary bladder.
